Demo of new GTA-style crime game The Precinct has been downloaded 100,000 times

Going back to the original game in 1997, I always felt sorry for the police in Grand Theft Auto. They could set up roadblocks, deploy stingers, and even send a SWAT team after me, but once I got on that little paid sprayer and swapped car colors, there was nothing they could do. GTA 6 looks great, and we’re all excited about Rockstar and Vice City’s return, but it won’t be happening for a while. JurisdictionIn the meantime, the game is coming soon – an open-world crime game told from the other side of the law that puts you in the role of one of those bullied cops, trying your best to put the worst crooks behind bars . A huge retro city. Stylish and atmospheric, The Precinct seems to be a hit already, and it hasn’t even been fully released yet.

It’s the 1980s and you’re new police officer Nick Cordell Jr. Your father, also a police officer, is murdered and you are determined to find the killer by working your way from low-level street arrests to high-intensity corporate and organized crime cases. Played from a semi-isometric perspective, The Precinct has the rainy, rundown atmosphere of Grand Theft Auto III’s Liberty City, combined with a visual style reminiscent of the first Grand Theft Auto.

It’s a crime game, but you try to keep the peace instead of causing chaos. Between shootouts, car crashes, and investigative work, you’ll fight to save the declining east coast metropolis of Avno City. We may still be some time away from GTA 6’s release date, but The Precinct feels like the ideal game to play in the meantime.

So far, Steam players seem to agree. The Next Fest demo of The Precinct has been downloaded more than 100,000 times, according to Fallen Tree, the developer of GTA 2019’s American Outlaws. Best of all, of the more than 1,000 user reviews posted for the demo, a staggering 97% of them were positive.

Precinct’s release window is set for Q4 2024, so we should have a release soon. In the meantime, you can still get a demo right here.

Or, try some of the best police games, or perhaps the best open world games on PC.
